Elephant - A God in Distress

The largest animal walking the earth today appeared for the first time 50 million years ago. Its survival has been wrought with various trials and tribulations, and today its very existence is at the mercy of human beings. The fate of the Indian elephant – also regarded as Lord Ganesha – is perilous. Mindless slaughter and destruction of its habitat is pushing this animal into trouble. This film is an encyclopaedic film on the Indian elephant – a look at its habitat, behaviour and natural history. It traces its veneration and its vilification, its use and abuse.
