Creeks of ConflictOn the eastern coast of India lies the Bhitarkanika Sanctuary in Orrisa, the biggest hatchery of Olive Ridley Turtles in the world. About 600,000 turtles have been recorded to come here to lay their eggs in March-April every year. The mangrove forest supports a wide variety of fish, birds and other life forms, such as crabs. But there are pressures on this sanctuary. Pressure from the people who live inside the park and have cleared the forest for agriculture. Or the politicians who have settled people here to bolster their vote banks. Ultimately, the ones who suffer are the flora and the fauna of the park. This film traces the biodiversity of, and the pressures on, the sanctuary. The film has recorded rare footage of the mass nesting of Olive Ridley Turtles and the hatchlings taking to the sea for the first time. Reference material / Download
